š¾ Playtime Begins: Puppies Are Starting to Play Fight! š¶š„ (January 2025 litters)
Updated: Feb 26
Our Birdie & Tree littersĀ are now over 3 weeks old, and weāre seeing an exciting new milestoneā
play fighting!Ā š These little ones are becoming more social, interactive, and curious about their littermates, and that means lots of adorable puppy wrestling matches!
š¶ What Does Puppy Play Fighting Look Like?
š¾ Gentle Biting & MouthingĀ ā Puppies explore the world with their mouths, so theyāll start nipping at each other in a fun, playful way. Their little teeth are coming in, so theyāre learning how to use them gently!
š¾ Pawing & PouncingĀ ā Weāre seeing tiny pounces, playful swats, and gentle wrestlingĀ as they begin testing out their coordination.
š¾ Little Growls & YipsĀ ā Their first playful growls and barksĀ are starting to emerge! Itās adorable to hear their tiny voices as they figure out how to communicate with each other.
š¾ Chasing & TumblingĀ ā Theyāre becoming more mobile, so weāre seeing little āzoomiesā around the whelping area, followed by rolling and tumbling over their littermates.
š Why Is Play Fighting Important?
š¶ Teaches Bite InhibitionĀ ā By playing with their siblings, puppies learn how hard is too hardĀ when it comes to biting. If they nip too hard, their sibling will yelp, teaching them to soften their biteāa key skill for good manners later in life!
š¶ Builds Coordination & StrengthĀ ā Wrestling helps puppies develop their muscles, balance, and motor skills as they prepare to explore even more of their environment.
š¶ Social Skills DevelopmentĀ ā Play fighting is an important way puppies learn boundaries, communication, and confidenceĀ before they go to their forever homes.
š¶ Boosts Confidence & Emotional RegulationĀ ā These playful interactions help puppies learn how to read body languageĀ and respond appropriately, setting them up for better social skills as adult dogs.
š¾ Whatās Next?
Over the next week, playtime will get even more excitingĀ as they start to recognize toys, engage in longer play sessions, and interact more with us! Weāll also see more tail wags, playful barks, and confident little personalities emerging.
Itās such a joy watching these puppies learn, grow, and bondĀ with each other. Playtime is only just beginning! š„°
