Today was a bittersweet day. Mint and Saffron had their final visit to the nursing home before heading off to their forever homes this week. We’re going to miss these visits until the next litter of puppies is old enough to go, but what a joyful morning it was! The residents were all smiles as they got to snuggle, pet, and love on the puppies one last time.
These visits are such a special part of our socialization program. It’s not just about the puppies learning to be calm and gentle with new people. It’s also about giving back and brightening someone’s day. The residents look forward to the visits, and the puppies gain confidence through new experiences, smells, and gentle handling in a calm environment.
Between 6 and 8 weeks, we focus heavily on positive social experiences for our puppies. Visiting nursing homes helps them:
✔️Build comfort with wheelchairs, walkers, and unusual movements.
✔️Experience new environments and sounds in a calm setting.
✔️Practice patience and gentleness with elderly hands and soft voices.
✔️Strengthen their adaptability and emotional resilience — traits that set the foundation for therapy, service, or family life.
We truly cherish the time we spend at the nursing home. Each visit reminds us how much joy puppies can bring and how meaningful these small moments can be.
