Inside the Puppy Pen: Day 27 - Bonus Edition - First Steps Toward Weaning

Updated: Aug 29, 2025

Today was a big milestone for the pups — their very first meal of raw goat milk, enriched with probiotics. This isn’t just about filling little bellies; it’s the start of an important process: building a healthy gut microbiome.

During the first weeks of life, a puppy’s digestive system is still developing. By introducing beneficial bacteria through probiotics in raw goat milk, we’re helping establish a balanced gut flora. This early foundation is key for:

✔️Strong immune systems to fight off illness

✔️Better nutrient absorption as their diet expands

✔️Smoother transitions to solid foods

The pups took to the milk right away, lapping it up like pros. Over the next several days, we’ll slowly thicken their meals, then add softened kibble, and eventually move toward full weaning. This careful process protects their digestive health while teaching them to handle new textures and flavors.

Watching their little milk-mustached faces today was priceless — such a rewarding moment in their journey toward becoming healthy, confident eaters!

🚨Puppy Gut Health Tip for Families:

When your puppy comes home, maintaining their gut health is just as important. Here are two simple ways to support it:

✔️If you decide to change their diet, make sure it is slowly switched over the process of 7 to 10 days.

✔️Consider a probiotic supplement designed for puppies to help balance their microbiome during the stress of transition and travel.

A healthy gut sets the stage for a healthier, happier pup — and fewer messes to clean up, too!
