Inside the Puppy Pen: Day 10 – Nap Time & a Cozy Upgrade

Updated: Aug 9, 2025

It’s nap time in the puppy pen, and at just 10 days old, these little ones are still in the eat-sleep-repeat stage of life. In fact, at this age, puppies snooze about 90% of the day—that’s roughly 20–22 hours of sweet, snuggly sleep!

Today, we gave their pen a comfort upgrade. Underneath their bedding, we added a memory foam egg crate pad. This isn’t just for luxury (though they certainly don’t mind!)—it serves an important purpose. With a smaller litter, each pup is getting plenty of milk, which means they’re filling out quickly. Chunkiness is wonderful for growth, but during this stage, it also brings a small risk: swimmer’s syndrome.

Swimmer’s syndrome can happen when a puppy’s chest flattens from too much time lying in one position, making it hard for them to roll over or get their legs under them. The gentle ridges of the egg crate pad help keep their bodies supported and encourage natural movement, so they can build strength without that risk.

For now, the pen is peaceful—tiny paws twitching in dreams, soft sighs in the air, and full bellies resting on their cozy new mattress. These little ones have no idea they just got a “puppy penthouse” upgrade, but we know it’s helping them grow strong and healthy.
