Inside the Puppy Pen - Day 9

The Pride and Prejudice puppies have officially more than doubled their birth weights, which is exactly what we want to see at this stage. They are thriving, they are full, and yes… they are very, very chunky.

In today’s video, you are seeing something called active sleep. This is completely normal and actually really important for their development.

Active sleep is when puppies appear to be asleep, but their bodies are busy. You will notice little muscle twitches, paddling movements, tiny squeaks, and even sudden jerks. Sometimes it can look like they are dreaming or trying to run in their sleep.

What is happening here is rapid neurological development.

During active sleep, the brain is essentially “wiring itself.” The nervous system is practicing communication between the brain and the muscles. Those little twitches are not random. They are part of how puppies develop coordination, strength, and body awareness.

This stage is especially important because puppies are born with an immature nervous system. In these early days, a large portion of their brain development actually happens while they are asleep.

So when you see all that movement, it is not a problem. It is a very good sign.

Healthy, well-fed puppies should spend a lot of time in active sleep. It means their brains are developing, their bodies are learning how to move, and everything is progressing exactly as it should.
