Right now, it may look quiet… just a pile of puppies nursing and those tiny little grunts 🥰. But this stage is actually quite hands-on for us behind the scenes.
We are still on a full 24/7 watch. This is very much their NICU phase, where they are fragile, completely dependent, and still learning how to navigate even the smallest movements.
You will notice how they root and crawl with purpose to find mama using only scent and heat, then settle in and nurse until they are full. That steady rhythm of eat, sleep, repeat is exactly what we want.
With a big mama, our biggest focus right now is safety. We have pig rails in place, which help create a buffer, but at this age puppies are so small they can still end up in tricky spots. Every now and then one will tuck underneath or behind her and not quite have the strength to get back out on their own.
So for now, we stay close watching, listening, and making small adjustments as needed to keep everyone safe and thriving.
As they get closer to that two week mark, you will start to see a shift. They will get stronger, more aware, and a little more independent. But for now we watch closely. It is all about quiet growth, full bellies, and those sweet little sounds that tell us everything is right on track.
