Inside the Puppy Pen - Day 11

These little polar bears are officially in their chunky phase. With only five puppies in the litter, there is no competition for milk, which means they are able to nurse freely and often. That abundance in these early days is exactly what supports steady weight gain, strong immune development, and healthy neurological growth.
Day eleven is still firmly within the neonatal period, where puppies spend the majority of their time sleeping and nursing. Their nervous systems are immature, and their bodies are prioritizing growth over movement. This is why we keep handling calm and purposeful during this stage. Rest is not inactivity. It is where the real development is happening.
We are just beginning to see the very corners of their eyes starting to open. This happens gradually and is often missed if you are not watching closely. Vision will come online slowly over the next several days and will be limited and blurry at first. Hearing typically follows shortly after, and as those senses begin to develop, their brains will start processing much more information.
For now, their world is still simple. Warmth, milk, sleep, and growing strong one nap at a time. These quiet days are building the foundation for everything that comes next.
